看电影来学习与探讨中国之文化，及民间风俗。。 Chinese 203 aims to reach the following objectives: 1. Increase student’s vocabulary pool and their speaking ability 2. Strengthen student’s writing ability through writing movie
summaries and the speech for oral final. 3. Enhance student’s appreciation of Chinese cultures
through watching
two Chinese films.

through Blackboard and at LRC: 1. Integrated Chinese textbook Audio CD 2. Integrated Chinese workbook DVD 3. Integrated Chinese multimedia companion 4. Cyber Chinese CD-Rom 5. Pinyin Master CD-Rom 6. Chinese Characters for Beginners Book and CD-Rom 7. Chinese Characters (1) Book and CD-Rom 8. Chinese Characters (2) Book and CD-Rom Grading System and requirements: 1) Attendances: absences and tardiness are strongly disfavored by the instructor. Be courteous and report your absence beforehand. After 1 free ticket (1 absence), each unreported absence will be counted as 1 point off the final grade. Chronic and habitual tardiness will be warned and treated equally as absences if not corrected.

Movie
summaries 20% -- Students will watch 2 movies of their choice this term, retell
each movie
in their own words verbally, and record their summaries
on audio cassettes or CDs. 4) Oral final 20%: students will choose one of the topics provided by the instructor, write and memorize a 5-8 minute speech, and deliver the speech on the last day of class. The speech will need to be graded by the instructor before they are memorized. 5) Quizzes 20% -- 4 quizzes on Ch. 8, 9, 10, 11 will be given throughout the term in lieu of a Midterm. 6) Final Exam 20% -- Written exam on Lessons 8-11 on Monday, June 5, 1:15-3:05 p.m. The following ten-grade option will be applied in this class:
